    Company Profile

With more than 110 years of successful operation and, hand-in-hand with its life-long associate and partner, Z. D. Pierides (est. in 1860), Francoudi & Stephanou is regarded among Cypriot business entities to have ventured into shipping. Established in 1895, the firm started with the customary representation of overseas shipping lines and later on pioneered in the introduction of cargo handling activities and facilities in Cyprus ports. Main areas of interest of the F&S Agency business since its formation, were those of transportation, of offering a comprehensive service whether by land, sea or air for cargo and passengers, of insurance and of trading. Through their continuous involvement in shipping for more than a century now, F&S and their associates have represented and promoted the interests of a great number of prominent Shipping Lines operating from/to U.K., the Continent, Scandinavia, the U.S.A., the Far East and the former Soviet Union. The Company’s progressive attitude towards shipping was best manifested when it became agency (in the early 1970’s) to initiate containerization in Cyprus and furthermore, to invest in the acquisition of its own container lifting and handling equipment. This resulted in its appointment by the Cyprus Ports Authority as port terminal operators at Famagusta. This concession continued also in Limassol and Larnaca after 1974 when the company was displaced and through its associates Omonia Terminal until the end of 1990 when the Company was compelled to transfer the operation to the Licensed Porters. Similarly, the Company was among the few Cyprus Shipping Agencies to be entrusted with, by leading lines, to efficiently coordinate and carry out large-scale container transshipments, from Limassol to all major Eastern Mediterranean destinations; a role, which is expected to be resumed with the completion of the modernization phase of the Cyprus port facilities. In its endeavor to offer a comprehensive service, the Company looked for expansion in other business activities aligned to the concept of total transportation and since then the Company has an adopted and improved scientific and progressive planning for such services as: worldwide freight forwarding, custom house clearing, insurance, groupage consolidation – deconsolidation, bonded warehousing, container repairing and refurbishing as well as inland haulage.
