Founded in January 1969 by Kamiel Matthys, SOTRAMAR has grown fast and developed very quickly. Specialized in handling and transport of chemicals, SOTRAMAR became house-forwarder for several multinational chemical groups in Western Europe. In the mid-70's the company developed strongly in the field of turn-key projects, especially in Germany and France. In 1983, after a strong co-operation of more than 20 years, the belgian S.B.T.C. was also founded in 1969 by the french COSITRAF-GROUP and was specialized in transport and export of iron and steel products. French exportinfluence was very important and the company was taken over in 1988 by Walter Fretz in order to combine these french traffics with the existing main swiss export traffics via the port of Antwerp. ATLAS SHIPPING AND FORWARDING was taken over in 1992 by SOTRAMAR and was a well-known forwarding company specialized in traffics of carpets, textiles and imports of coffee, cacao and cotton products. In 1992 the activities of the three companies were merged in one new entity S.B.T.C. - SOTRAMAR N.V. with a full paid-up capital of € 1.041.000 and a staff of 40 employees, specialized in warehousing, road, air, rail and seatransports. During the last 5 years the company regularly realized a turnover of over € 20.000.000 and was situated at the top of the list of the belgian transport and forwarding agents.
