This will help Malaysia become a high-growth regional logistics hub, with localised 24-hour delivery and cross-border 72-hour delivery, helping to accelerate global small&middle trade.

Located next to the Kuala Lumpur Airport, the hub covers an area of more than 240,000 square meters, including more than 100,000 square meters of logistics and warehousing area.

The project took more than two years to prepare and construct, which is an important stop of Cainiao global backbone network.

LAZADA, the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, is the first to use Cainiao Kuala Lumpur Hub, and other e-commerce and logistics companies will follow.

The hub will double Kuala Lumpur airport's cargo capacity to 1.4 million tons by 2029, according to Airport Malaysia CEO Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh. It will mainly carry goods such as cars, sporting goods, retail electronics and medical equipment.

"As cargo volumes grow, we will add new routes, increase flight frequency, belly compartment utilization and cargo capacity," Said Shukrie, who expects local cargo flights to double in the next decade.

All airlines, cargo and express delivery companies connected to the Kuala Lumpur airport and Cainiao eHub hub will benefit.

The opening of Alibaba eWTP hub will help enhance the air cargo status of Kuala Lumpur Airport.

Cainiao's early eHub project in Liege, Belgium, had already made Liege one of the world's fastest growing cargo airports, vaulting it from Europe's seventh largest cargo airport to the world's cargo hub of the year 2020.
