In response to the recent changes in the market, Maersk,MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd ,ZIM, among other liner companies, have announced that they will adjust some freight rates from April.
Maersk adjusts terminal handling charges
Maersk has announced an increase in terminal handling fees for destination ports from the world (excluding OCE) to North America (US and Canada).
The new fee, which applies to both 40-foot and 45-foot containers, will come into effect on April 1.
Compared with the previous freight, the terminal handling charge at the destination port generally increased by USD20 per case.

CMA CGM increased freight rates on routes from the Far East to India and Pakistan
CMA CGM has announced that in order to ensure the on-time rate of routes from the Far East to the Indian subcontinent, it has increased freight rates from Asian ports in the Far East to Pakistan, India west coast, India east coast and Sri Lanka by $200 /TEU and $400 /FEU.
This fee applies to Dry, OOG, breakbulk and reefer cargo and is effective from 1 April (bill of lading date).
In addition, a peak season surcharge (PSS) of US $150 /TEU was levied on dry cargo containers from Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Mainland China, Hong Kong China and Macau China to Cameroon (Douala), also effective from April 1.
And according to the latest announcement issued by CMA CGM, PSS is charged on the routes from Abidjan to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, China, Hong Kong, Macau SAR, the Indian subcontinent, Middle East Gulf, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, East Africa and South Africa, which applies to Dry(except cotton).
Amount USD 150 per 20’/USD 300 per 40’,and it is effective from April 24th,2021(date of loading in the origin ports).
Hapag-Lloyd increased freight rates on some Asia-Europe routes.
Hapag-Lloyd announced an increase in freight rates for all 20ft and 40ft containers on eastbound trade routes from Turkey and Italy to east Asia from April 1.

On eastbound trade routes from Turkey to East Asia, the cost of shipping a 20-foot container has generally increased by $50 and a 40-foot container by $100, compared with previous rates.
On eastbound trade routes from Italy to East Asia, rates have generally risen by $200 per container.
MSC charges Misdeclaration Fee
A misdeclaration fee of US $1,000 (CMD) will be imposed on each container of all goods exported from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
The specific scope and time of execution are:charges from the above countries and territories to any destination other than the US, effective March 22 (Bill of Lading Date); The charge to USA will be effective from April 20th (bill of lading date).
It is understood that the fee is to compensate for the additional costs caused by the incorrect declaration, including requotation, final checks on feasibility and cost, and document revisions.
ZIM charges Port Congestion Surcharges
ZIM announced a congestion surcharge for all dry cargo inbound and outbound from north European ports.It is effective from April 11th,2021.
