    Derek Scarbrough Founder and CEO

JCtrans: Would you please make a brief introduction of your company?

Derek Scarbrough: Global Logistical Connections is a U.S.-based freight forwarder, Customs Brokerage, Warehousing, and Distribution firm headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. with branch offices in Chicago, IL., Charleston, SC., Miami, FL., and Bogota, Colombia.

Established in 2006, GLC, Inc. has 15 years of experience in the international logistics sector. Our vast network of facilities across the United States, company-owned truck fleet, and NVOCC and IATA certifications allow us to offer a complete U.S. solution to our international partners.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about your core competitiveness?
Derek Scarbrough: As a U.S.-owned and operated freight forwarder with 15 years of experience in the international logistics sector, our core competencies include U.S. Imports, Customs Brokerage, warehousing and fulfillment strategies transloading, final mile delivery, and export consolidations. As an Amazon Approved Carrier, we offer comprehensive door-to-door FBA and FBM solutions, including consulting for our partners looking to enter the eCommerce fulfillment sector.

JCtrans: What do you think is the most essential thing to run a logistics company?
Derek Scarbrough: There are many. First, building and sustaining a quality team emphasizing education, development, leadership, and having a team mentality throughout the organization manage the many facets/ requirements of the industry.

Second, cash flow. Having quality processes for timely billing, emphasis on communication about any/all charges to avoid shock value, and the ability to bill correctly and collect timely.

Lastly, technology. Letting your systems work for you, minimizing multiple touches, and improving efficiency.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about the situation of logistic industry in your country?
Derek Scarbrough: Although the United States is facing unprecedented congestion, freight rates, and equipment shortages, the logistics sector in the U.S. is strong. Recent reports are forecasting a 35% year-over-year growth in warehousing/ logistics in 2021. The rise in eCommerce fulfillment has put pressure on retailers and distribution firms to grow their warehousing footprint in a matter of months, creating a sharp increase in demand for space and encouraging the entry of new logistics firms into the sector.

The rapid growth in U.S. Imports over the last 12 months has highlighted inefficiencies at our Ports and Intermodal terminals, putting pressure on Port Authorities across the U.S. to invest in technology and infrastructure to meet the needs of the international shipping community. The product of these technological and infrastructural investments will serve the international community for years to come.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about your strategy to explore foreign markets?

Derek Scarbrough: Before Covid, our strategy has always been to travel there. It is hard to fully understand the market without physically being present learning the local customs and how they like to transact business. With Covid, we have relied on zoom calls, asking questions, and learning.

JCtrans: What is the reason that makes you become a GCP member to develop your business?

Derek Scarbrough: Opportunity. Opportunity to reach out to so many agents and tell them about our core strengths, and spread the word of our organization across the entire network.  We have a tremendous opportunity to support the agents in GCP through our USA capabilities and growing company.

JCtrans: How do you maintain a long-term cooperation relationship with your clients?
Derek Scarbrough: We believe that transparency and reliability are vital in maintaining a long-term relationship. Our clients know that when they call, we answer. That we always provide our most competitive rates and routing. And that when things do not go as planned, they will receive upfront and transparent communication on how we plan to resolve the issue. Our customers know that we treat their business as an extension of our own and that every solution we provide is with the best interest of their company in mind.
